Charlottes Best Breweries

beer-flight.jpg-

So I recently found a great link for Local breweries are Charlotte. Breweries are just like beer themselves. Everyone thinks that there favorite is the best and that nothing else can bet it. Click on each of the logos and it will give you more insight and background into each one of them. I have found that I can usually find a beer that I enjoy just about anywhere, except for Four Friends Brewing and Rock Bottom. They just have no flavor to me and are ver plain. I always try then at beer festivals but to this day I have found any that I like at those two. These are my favorites in order: NODA Brewery, OMB, Bird Song, Triple C and Heist Brewery. I haven’t had a chance to go to Ass Clown or Free Range Yet, but I heard great things. So do you have any that I’ve left out?

Growing a Beard and Save Your Life

Ok so maybe they can’t protect you from a car accident or being trampled by a heard of elephants. But beards do have have proven benefits from researchers who have discovered that men with beards and moustaches actually enjoy numerous benefits including, but not limited to, instant handsomeness.
1. Sun Protection
Beards block up to 95 percent of the sun’s UV rays, which can play a huge role in preventing basal-cell carcinomas (the most common form of all cancers).
 2. Blemish-Free Skin
Forgoing the razor doesn’t just hide blemishes—it actually prevents them.
3. More Masculinity
The more facial hair a man has, the more masculine both men and women perceive him to be, according to research published in Evolution and Human Behavior.  A study found that a ten day growth is the length women find the most attractive.
4. Natural Moisture
You probably didn’t know your face has its own built-in moisturizing regimen—it’s called your sebaceous glands (oil glands for short) and, according to Trotter, it secretes a natural oil that keeps skin moisturized.
5. Trapped Allergens
Your nose hairs trap more than you think they do. So it makes sense that a beard or mustache would have even more of an effect.  Just be sure to treat your beard like any other filter and wash it regularly.

Can Beer be Good for You?

We have all always heard of the benefits of drinking a glass of wine a night. But now with the popularization of cart bears and local brews it becoming highly accepted that beer has some of the same effects. With heart increasing it’s been noted that people who have one (one or two for men and one for women)  of these frosty beverages had low risks. Below is a list of other health reason to have beer.

Heart Health – Men with healthy lifestyles, those who consumed moderate amounts of alcohol had a 40 to 60% reduced risk of heart attack compared with heart healthy men who abstained.
Stroke – Beyond helping you get heart healthy, moderate drinking also may help prevent the formation of blood clots that can block arteries in the heart, neck and brain.
Hypertension – A link between hypertensive men drinking moderate amounts of alcohol and a lower risk of fatal and non-fatal heart attacks.
Diabetes – Studies have shown that people with diabetes who drink moderately may be able to reduce their risk of coronary heart disease, their biggest killer.
Cognitive Function – Moderate drinking may Be associated with better cognitive function in women. Adults over 65 who consume between one and six alcoholic beverages each week have a lower risk of dementia than non-drinkers and heavier drinkers.
Bones – Studies have shown that beer may play a role in preventing bone loss and rebuilding bone mass in men and young women
Staying Alive – The lowest risk of death appears to occur when people consume one to two drinks per day, likely a result of the protective effects against coronary heart disease and stroke.
Feeling Healthier – The higher the consumption of total alcohol, researchers found, the lower the levels of subjective poor health.

Favorite Music Sites

So I have a lot of people ask me, how I’m always finding new music? There are a lot of different avenues. Word of mouth, live shows, spots in a tv show or movie or even sometimes reading about a band. But in todays world internet is always the easiest way to discover new music. Yes, there are a ton of these sites out there and sometimes their opinions are way off and sometimes biased. Some of my favorite sites usually go along with my own music tastes and what my friends call my “music snob” opinions.

pitchfork_logo

http://pitchfork.com – Pitchfork is one of those sites that I go to first. They have a lot of great underground musicians and a lot of other music related topics.

stereogum-logo

http://www.stereogum.com – Sterogum to me feels like a site that gathers info from a lot of other sites and artist blogs and Facebook and band sites. But it’s a pretty great one stop site. Sterogum does share a lot of the same posting that pitchfork does. But they have great lists and breakdowns of the year, season, decade etc.

http://www.undertheradarmag.com – Under the Radar is a site that is also a magazine. The magazine is how I originally cam across this site. The site is set up more like an actual magazine with interviews artist and up and coming bands. I really the writing on this site and find it to be informative. But again you have to check out the band to find out for yourself.

spotify-logo-primary-horizontal-light-background-rgb

https://www.spotify.com/us/ – Spotify is my favorite site to go to listen to new music. The great thing about Spotify is that you can listen to whole albums. Unlike Pandora you aren’t just constantly on a shuffle. But for the most part they are always current with newly released albums, even crazy obscure stuff. They also usually have good suggestions for new music based on what you previously listened to.

Give these sites a look and let me now if there are any you think are better.

Style and Trim Guide

Ok so, I know that the site below was made to sell Gillette shaving products but the videos are pretty cool. Especially for those guys that need a little guidance. The videos are broken down into 18 basic different styles. They each show step by step, how to achieve the look you want. However each one does start with some substantial growth and then is trimmed down from there. So you might need at least a good week or two growth before starting this journey. I’ve also included a Tumblr page that could help with inspiration, or just take in the gloriousness of beardness. Happy Shaving.

Cut Copy’s – New Album

So whats not to love about this video. Eric Northman, cults and blue puma running suits. Ok yeah its a bit odd but I enjoy the unexpected in video. Alexander Skarsgard runs through the forest, leads a tribe, performs a baptism and calms a pit bull all the while being followed by a little ol assistant lady. He removes his robe and starts running the forest again. Watch for yourself and see what you think. Plus I early waiting the new album to come out next week. Cut Copy is an Australian indie electronic, sythpop, new wave band formed in 2001. They do a great job of blending in lyrics with great dance beats. They also have a bit of a 90’s throw back in a lot of their songs, not in a cheesy way but what made 90’s pop kinda good (if I can say that without being stoned to death).

In September the full version of “Free Your Mind” (song below) debuted at six specific locations worldwide. Fans were informed that they could visit selected billboards in Mexico, Chile, Australia, Detroit, and California and one in the UK at Blaneau Gwent in South Wales. When fans were standing near the billboard, they could open an app which would allow them to stream the track through their smartphones. Pretty cool promotion I think, if we had had one hear I would have definitely gone.

Fictional Beers – Would you drink them?

In response to some recent requests, I’ve complied a list of fictional beers from popular TV shows. Now this isn’t and all inclusive list, but a list from some of my favorite shows some cartoons. Some of these I would try namely because of the hilarity of the skit or episode. The others seem to just be like a Miller Lite or Bud Lite type of beer. Which if you’ve been reading blog, should know by now that I have more of a snobby (or what a prefer to call a refined taste) in beers.

First would be Vän Der Bräu – Don’t Trust the B*** in Apt 23.

I hate this show was cute short, but I loved James Van Der Beek fictionalized self-absorbed version of himself in the show. So it’s fitting that he’d have his own beer with him on the label with a flowing lions mane.

Second is Alamo Beer – King of the Hill

King of the Hills is a great personification what rednecks do while drinking and sitting (standing) around and discussing nothing in particular. The show has some great episodes that revolve around the beer itself. And just the name is funny to me, I guess that can’t just call it Budweiser, ha.

Third is Dharma Initiative – Lost

If your trapped on an island with lots of crazy unexplainable things going on around you, you need a beer too. I love that the packaging is so plan and simple (just like all the other initiative products. It just makes me thing its a really crappy lite beer.

Fourth  is Pawtucket Patriot Ale – Family Guy

This is another cartoon show who’s father character, drinks too much. I wander if this is a reflection of the creators childhood, it would explain a lot. Family has a few episodes to that focus on the beer a main theme. One even in which drinkers could find a golden ticket and go on a factory tour, all of which was a play on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Fifth is Samuel Jackson Beer – Chappelle Show

*bad words are replace with the word sandwich)*

[shouts] Good mothersandwhiching choice, mothersandwhicher! Samuel Jackson! Made painstakingly by me, Samuel L. Jackson! It’ll get ya drunk! You’ll be sandwhiching fat girls in no time! You might even fight a sandwich or two! Mmmm-mmm, bitch!  – NUFF SAID –

Sixth and Lastly is Duff Beer – Simpsons

Who could forget this one. I think the is the most iconic of the fictional beers. Mainly because Simpsons have been around forever but because it has appeared in more episodes than most character (ex: Millhouse).  Also who could forget Duff Beers Duffman, the buff, womanizing spokesman who is always surrounded by bikini-clad women. Small fun fact, Did you know Duff and Duff Light are the same beer just different labels…?
